Visitors often comment on what a friendly place South Africa is, but unfortunately crime
is a worldwide problem and it is prudent to take common sense precautions to protect yourself and your valuables.
Lock
valuables out of site in the boot of your car, do not walk alone at night in
deserted areas, avoid showing too much flashy jewellery, camera equipment or
cash.
When paying by credit card, try to ensure that your card remains in view to avoid fraudsters taking imprints of the card.
Avoid withdrawing large sums of money from roadside automated teller machines.
As you move around the country seek advice from your hosts as situations
differ from area to area.
TIP:
Always ensure you fill up with petrol before leaving a town
as petrol stations are few and far between outside of the main
towns and routes. |
