It's nearly six months since we opened our doors at Porcupine
Ridge. In that short time we've had a couple of teething troubles and minor hiccups but we all survived relatively unscathed, we've learnt a lot and
most of all we've met some wonderful people.
In April, we were thrilled to be awarded 4 stars by the Grading
Council of South Africa. Particularly rewarding for us as we
started from scratch - we must be doing something right.
Ealier this month I fulfilled a long held ambition and went
on a 3 day Wilderness Trail in the Kruger Park. What a magical
experience. If your heart beats faster at the thought of running
after lions at 6am, standing a stone's throw from 400 buffalo,
witnessing a 2 day old rhino calf suckling and elephants feeding
next to your tent, then consider booking a Wilderness Trail.
You need to book a year in advance and will no doubt want to
break your journey to or from the Park with a day or two
at Porcupine Ridge!
Our list of garden birds at the guest house is growing steadily.
An unusual call had us running for our binoculars last week
and we were delighted to find and identify a pair of red-throated
wrynecks.
The weather is settling down for winter now, with gorgeous
warm sunny days and chilly, starry nights warmed by a crackling
log fire. The grasslands are losing their colour and the Forestry
are busy cutting and burning firebreaks. We are all praying
we don't get a repeat of last year's devastating fires in the
dry winter months.
Winter is a great time to visit the Lowveld. The weather is
sunny, the air is crisp and clear, game viewing is easier,
you have the energy to do more ....and a warm welcome awaits
at Porcupine Ridge.
'Till next time,
